Welcome to MONDIKI Square Dance Clothing. We are happy to share with you a bit of information about us, such as where we’ve been and where we are going. We hope you enjoy a bit of our history.
MONDIKI is a most unique name, and has become synonymous with the terms of “Quality” and “Affordable”. Our name is a combination of the names of our former owners, Monica (MON) and Dick (DIKI) Krug of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Prior to being a square dance clothing manufacturer, they were a sportswear manufacturer in Lake Havasu City. MONDIKI has been doing business for years out of Monica and Dick's home-based shop just outside of Lake Havasu City.
MONDIKI has been making beautiful, original square dane clothing since 1985. Our designs are our own. We have built our business on quality fabrics and exceptional sewing and use the same solid fabrics in our blouses, skirts, and men’s shirts. When the “Lady” picks out her special outfit, MONDIKI will put the same fabric from her dress on her “Partner’s” shirt yoke. A matching tie completes his outfit, and compliments the “Lady” precisely. MONDIKI is the only manufacturer that can offer you the “Whole Package” of matching outfits, giving you and your partner that eloquently “Coordinated” look.
We have become known for our Sante Fe style skirts, as found in Sante Fe, New Mexico. These skirts are truly exceptional boasting rows and rows of beautiful trims and ribbons, and many tiers of complimenting fabrics. These skirts are available in square dance lengths of 18-23” and prairie lengths of 27-36”. This type of skirt in New Mexico will cost you 3 times what you will pay at MONDIKI.
Monica and Dick retired from MONDIKI in June of 2005, after 20 years at the helm. MONDIKI was sold to Darrell Newell, formerly of Hillsboro, Oregon, now residing in Lake Havasu city, Arizona. Darrell’s vision of MONDIKI’s future is very closely aligned with what has made MONDIKI successful in the past. As with any ownership changes, some things are different. Darrell sews many of the garments while traveling on the road to and from Festivals and Conventions in his motor home. The majority of the sewing continues to be made out of Lake Havasu with the aforementioned “Exceptional” seamstresses. Rest assured that the quality you have come to know from MONDIKI will remain as the standard. When asked one time about changes to MONDIKI, Darrell’s response was:
“If it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it! Why change a good thing!”
